I made my annual wildflower/conditioning hike up Dog Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge this last week. For us Portland hikers, this is one of our highlight hikes — so much so, I don’t go anywhere near it on a weekend this time of year. The weekend before Memorial Day, the trailhead parking lot was so full, people were having to park along the highway! Even for our Wednesday hike, there were probably 25 hikers on the summit.
I’m a little late posting these, but there are still plenty of flowers blooming, I’m sure. I hear the balsamroot (sunflowers) are just getting past prime in the upper meadows, but that just means the lupine will be exploding soon. The paintbrush were rockin’!
Get on up there!
