Portland Hikes Talk at REI, Hike Lead for Forest Park Conservancy

I have two events of interest this week related to Portland hikes.

The first one is just talking about hiking, in particular the best summertime hikes near Portland, as well as the new — for Spring 2014 — edition of 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles of Portland, which I am working on this summer. And by “working” I really just mean “going out hiking as often as I can,” when I’m not working on being the Portland Breakfast Guy.

Summer hiking near Portland means lakes and Mount Hood are available!
Summer hikes near Portland: It’s all about lakes and Mount Hood.

So, on Thursday June 20, 7 pm, I give a talk on Portland hikes at REI Clackamas. Like I said, this will be a quick survey of my book, plus the stuff I’ve been doing for the new edition, and also some of the best places to go hiking around here in the summertime. I’ll be giving as many tips as I can, answering questions, signing books, and trying to crack the occasional joke.

Hiking in Portland's Forest Park is all about trees and mellow grades.
Hiking in Forest Park means being among old trees in the middle of the city.

On Saturday June 22nd there’s an actual hike! I will be leading an old-growth tree hike in Forest Park for the Forest Park Conservancy. It’s a super chill, three-miler in a less-visited corner of Forest Park, with an emphasis on stopping to admire some of the oldest trees in the park. Registration is required, and it’s $10 for non-members, free for members. More info at the link.

I have all sorts of other hikes and talks planned, and if you want to check out the schedule, head on over to my Trips and Talks Page.
