In October 2017 I will be leading a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal — literally the roof of the world. The trip is with Portland-based Embark Adventures, and we will be taking a slightly less-traveled route known as the Gokyo Lakes.
I could not be more excited about this trip. Nepal is hikers’ heaven, as far as I’m concerned, and some of the places we will visit on this 15-day trek are famous the world over:
Lukla, where we fly in from Kathmandu on one of the most famous flights in the world
Before and after the trek, we will have time to explore Kathmandu, with its famous medieval streets and places holy to Buddhists and Hindus alike. It’s a city that should be high on everyone’s “bucket list,” and it certainly is on mine.
